Anushay’s Point On CNN: World Must Help Bangladesh Save The Rohingya

Since August 25th, over 400,000 Rohingya people, a Muslim minority group ethnic to Myanmar, have literally been pouring into Bangladesh, causing a humanitarian crisis amongst one of the most persecuted groups in the world.

And the number of people fleeing the recent violence and persecution are not going to stop anytime soon.

I went on CNN International and spoke with Hala Gorani about how currently it is only Bangladesh, one of the poorest countries in the world, to be doing anything to help the Rohingya and absorb the refugee population.

I stipulated that Myanmar must end the violence on their end and how the international community must stop looking the other way.

The crisis unfolding in front of our eyes and the images that are coming out of Bangladesh as thousands of Rohingya by the day flee to Bangladesh after having their villages burned, family members executed, and children killed is beyond painful.

Some of the most already iconic images can be seen on TIME Magazine here. As photographer Dar Yasin states, “…These people do not even have time to mourn. They have to keep moving.”

I also did not mince any words when it came to Myanmar’s de-facto leader, Nobel Laureate, Aung San Suu Kyi, who has broken all of our hearts by the sheer lack of humanity she shows for the Rohingya.
