It is the end of another year, and as I find myself reflecting on my childhood and comparing it with my daughters’ lives, I also look back on what a year it has been for Anushay’s Point.
In 2017, I continued my opinion journalism and political commentary work while also expanding my platforms. I made my CNN International debut earlier in the year while still pregnant, but getting to be on Hala Gorani’s show was really a huge honor.
I also got to travel internationally to cover the 2017 Minamata Conference in Geneva, Switzerland for the Daily Ittefaq as part of the Bangladesh Delegation.
Even though I had technically made my MSNBC debut last year, this year Anushay’s Point really cemented its presence on the network by becoming a regular on AM Joy, Joy Reid’s weekend morning show.
Then, of course, there were the Nazi riots in my beloved Charlottesville about which I wrote one of my most personal essays for CNN.
As the Rohingya refugee and genocide crisis unfolded in Bangladesh, I conducted my third interview with maternal health advocate and supermodel, Christy Turlington-Burns whose organization is doing critical work for women’s health on the ground.
I was also beyond honored to have my article on Melania Trump’s visit to Saudia Arabia make CNN’s list of top articles of the year.
But the biggest accomplishment I had this year was the birth of my second daughter, Layla Via Pahlevani, whom my husband and I were blessed to welcome in May.
That brings us to the final days of 2017, and I want to thank you, my dear dear readers. Thank you for reading, watching and supporting my work without which I would have no voice. Thank you for listening.
Wishing you a very happy Holiday Season and New Year, from my family to yours.
See you in 2018!
